'Out with the old, in with the new' is one of those familiar phrases that have to be taken in context. Whilst the New Year may be a great time for fresh starts, for clearing out junk, for starting new projects and for looking forward, it doesn't mean that everything from the past year is now to be discarded and forgotten. Speaking as someone for whom retirement is now visible, if not imminent, it's important to remember that some old things should be cherished, respected and preserved alongside the bright shiny new things!
