Starter
Spicy Thomas Soup
The starter is named in honour of Tom, who has this year started a new job! Still working in the wonderful world of digital imagery, he is now employed by a company in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, and has made a very good start in his first few months. With a decent income at last, he and his long-term girlfriend, Charlotte, have started house-hunting. In the meantime, he's staying with Grandma & Grandad Trembling to cut down on the commute.
Thomas Soup is thick and full of big words, strange concepts and virtual designs that make no sense to the rest of us, but which are always impressive.
Main Course
Dad Turkey
A well established old favourite! And like all old favourites, nothing much has changed. Dad still trundles up and down the A38 every working day to Mansfield and back, where he wields his powder brush and fights crime in the name of Truth, Justice and a regular income. Of course, while he does all this his mind is usually off in a different reality as he writes stories in his head. This accounts for the glazed look, which adds to the presentation of a well prepared turkey, but which can be a little worrying when he's doing 70mph. Comes half-baked.
Or: Stir-Fried Matthew
A sizzling combination of flavours, reflecting the variety of tuneful noises that have been drifting out of Matt's room as he prepared his portfolio of compositions. He has been wanting to go on from school to study at a Conservatoire of Music – an ambitious goal, as these are prestigious establishments with limited numbers of places – but he has a conditional offer for Birmingham Conservatoire! Exciting times. He's especially interested in Musical Theatre, and he's continued performing with Backstreet Theatre Company at Cannock, as well as other groups. And working towards his A-levels at school, so it's been a busy year.
Dessert
Crème Brule a la Annie
The sweetest thing in the house, beyond doubt! She may sometimes seem a little crusty, but that's due to the heat and pressure of holding down at least three high-pressure jobs – Deacon, Mother and Wife! Underneath, she's still the same warm, gentle and loving person. And multi-talented as well – not only does she play the cello (or will do, when it's fixed), but she's recently taken up her paint brush again and has produced some very impressive watercolour landscapes.
Andrew Cheese Board
Strong keyboard cheddars, Knock-your-socks-off piano Stiltons, and some red-hot chili saxophone! Andy has been expanding his repertoire since he took up the sax this year, and he's performing with it in a band concert. But he's keeping up his piano / keyboard skills as well, and delivered a memorable rendition of Einaudi for Grandma and Grandad Trembling's Diamond Wedding celebration this year. And also doing very well in other subjects at school.
Vegetarian Menu
Try a tasty omelette, made with eggs freshly laid by our own chickens. If we can stop them eating their own eggs! Daft birds.
Children's Menu – Hot Dog
That's Blaze, still a pretty hot dog, though he's now very grey round the muzzle and not quite as fast as he was. He still likes children though – raw or cooked.
