Yes, folks, once more it’s time to catch up to all the shindigs and goings-on down at the Trembling Ranch House, in Cactus Crescent, Sandy Gulch City (or Vine Crescent as the mailman calls it).
Well, folks, it sure has been a mighty busy year in these parts. Why, we’d hardly gotten last Christmas all rounded up when dang me if Old Pa Trembling didn’t up and have himself a corronorary! (Or some such-like 50-Doller doctors word: ordinary folks would call it a heart attack). This was round about February time, and my, wasn’t there a whole heap of fussing and hollerin’ around before they had him packed off to the Hors-pital, with all kinds of wires and tubes a-hanging outa’ him.
Well, Pa, now, ah daresay he was a mite worried, but he didn’t have anything to do but lay there and rest himself - which is all he ever wanted to do anyhow. It was poor old Ma Trembling who had all the frettin’ and fussin’ to do, what with looking after the littlun’s and visiting Pa and all.
Still, turns out things weren’t so bad after all: and after he’d been off work for a good long while, and them Doctors had done all them there tests on him - why, I’ll be hornswoggled if they didn’t turn round and say as how it aint been no corronorary at all! Just some kind of infection, which is all cleared up. I guess they was relieved, and thanking the Good Lord - but Pa had to get hisself up and go on back to work, so it weren’t all good news.
Now Ma, she’s been busy enough, without Pa under her feet, being as she’s still looking after other folks kids full time, as well as her own three varmints. Of course, Matthew’s a schoolboy, now, since January: and even little Andy has started playschool, (two times each and every week) - but they do keep comin’ home again! And Thomas, well, he’s moved on up to Secondary School this last September and now he’s a-gettin’ his head round all sorts of new stuff: but that’s more trouble for Ma, who has to watch and see that he does his homework!
Now, folks, don’t go gettin’ the idea that there’s nothin’ to occupy the Tremblings but there own home life. No, sirree! Pa, he still goes out preachin’ regular, and hopes that the Good Lord will bless some folks through him. Well, he reckons that they’ll either get a blessin’ when he’s preachin’, or else they’ll get one when he stops! Ma, she’s mighty busy with the Sunday School, and with the Sunday Evening youth group: she reckons as how they’ve had some mighty fine times with them youngsters, and given them a lot of good things to be a-pondering on. And of course, there’s all the livestock to look after, and Pa still has to feed the rabbit and muck out his cage, seeing as how no one else dares do it! That’s one fearsome critter!
Now Thomas, he’s busy enough with the Scouts, and with that Eastern - type Kick Boxing, and just lately, dang my hide if he ain’t taken up the Gee-tar! Sure, and there’s some mighty strange sounds comin’ outa his bedroom, but Ma allows that he’ll take to it real well.
Matt is doin’ good with his schoolin’ - why, just this week he come’s along home with the ‘Star of the Week’ award! And Pa’s takin’ him along to swimming lessons every week, being as how he’s always getting hisself into deep water!
Andy, now he’s the cutest little critter of the bunch, and don’t he know it! And smart, too: why, already he can count past 10. And somehow he always knows anytime somebody’s got chocolate! Just lately, he’s taken to doin’ them there Jigsaw puzzles, and Ma an’ Pa have been mighty impressed by how fast he can fix them bits together.
So that’s how things are, folks. It’s been a kinda tough year in some ways, but ah daresays as how it coulda been worse. And it’s been mighty encouraging for the Trembling’s when they’ve gotten word from you about your goings on. They sure feel it a shame that they can’t keep in touch better, but they’re fixing to get one of them fancy new compu-ti-ters for Christmas, with that there internet and e-mail an’ all such new fangled ideas: so, mayhap some of you’ll be getting to hear more from them, by and by!
Well, I guess I’ll be moseying along now, being as it’s coming up sunset, and I gotta ride off into it! Till next time, have yerselfs a fine time this Christmas, and the Good Lord’s blessings in the New Year. S’long, pardner!
