'Flash Fiction' is very short short stories - normally between two hundred and fifty and a thousand words. I was introduced to the concept by a Flash Fiction competition. However, when I started writing some stories for entry, I realised that I'd done this before!
'Androidism' I wrote some time ago (and has been only slightly modified since). I submitted to a magazine, who rejected it on the grounds that it was too short! Flash Fiction is now becoming quite popular, I understand, especially in internet publications. Clearly, I was way ahead of my time!
'Oddbins' is a nickname I gave to our dog (Blaze). It gave me the starting point for this story, 'Walking Oddbins'. Why 'Oddbins'? It's in the story....!
'Homecoming' came out of a creative writing weekend at Launde Abbey, in Leicestershire. We were given the first paragraph, and had to make a story from that. Mine was encouragingly well received by the group, so I hope you'll enjoy it as well.
'A beach, at dawn' was written in response to an appeal. After the earthquake in Japan, a project was set up to produce a book that could be sold to assist in disaster relief. This was my contribution. Unfortunately, it wasn't accepted for the book, but I quite liked it myself!
I have a fascination for doors and gates - indeed, for anything that looks like it might go somewhere interesting! I even take pictures of the best ones (you can see some of them on Pinterest - https://www.pinterest.com/paultrembling/doorways-and-portals/) and inevitably, they inspire stories - such as 'Shrodinger's Door'.
Holidays are a good time for getting story ideas. New places, new sights and sounds, time to think of them. 'The Seagull's Return' was written on holiday several years ago. I lost it for a while, but rediscovered it, edited it down to under five hundred words, and now here for you to read.
The Call is a short story with, I hope, a deep message. See what you get out of it!
